What is a risk?
Risk is defined as "The possibility of suffering harm or loss; danger". For the company which outsource or is going to outsource software development the main risks are:
- not expected costs on Customer side
- large costs for providing very detailed requirements
- bad quality
- payment done but work is not done
- result does not match original expectations
How to minimize risks
Risks minimizing is impossible without control or management of risks. Risk management is a quite formal process. It can be logically divided into two parts.Risk Assessment - figuring out what the risks are and focusing on. It includes:
- making a list of all of the potential dangers that can affect the project;
- assessing the probability of occurrence and potential loss of each item listed;
- ranking the items (from most to least dangerous).
- applying techniques and strategies to mitigate the highest ordered risks;
- implementing the strategies to resolve the high order risks factors;
- monitoring the effectiveness of the strategies and the changing levels of risk in the project.
Risk prevention in GERSIS SOFTWARE
We would like to show you that company can successfully resist risks. Let’s take a look at how we prevent and mitigate main risks in GERSIS SOFTWARE.
Risk of bad quality is mitigated by:
- work according quality assurance plans
- defining bottlenecks and monitoring their state
- doing a code review for more than 85% of source code
Our Customers have never paid before work is done. Just because we are billing only after acceptance of work by customer.
In order to prevent any unexpected costs we discuss with Customer not only what will be done, but also what will not be done, define costs and scope of work, describe processes and responsibilities.
Our experience shows out, that in software development risk management worth it. Efforts for risk management are much less than consequences of non- or underestimated risks.
It is obvious, that there is no secret in minimizing risks. It is just necessary to start thinking about them.
